Age of mythology returns and reignites the love affair back in 2002.

System reviewed: Xbox series X

Retold isn’t a remake but more of a reimaging of the original game. By odin’s beard! Age of Mythology is still addicting and brilliant RTS like it was 22 years ago.

With the updated visuals helping a lot. Age of Mythology is more or less Age of Empires with the mythology eras. Powerful heroes can join the battlefield, mythical beasts mixing with the regular soldiers, providing a more entertaining affair when marching towards your enemies.

The overhaul of the UI and visuals is clear and crisp. Playing on the Xbox Series X. The controls are like that of Age of Empire II and IV, which is really easy to pick up and play. Managing your resources such as gold, wood, and food and the limitation of personell creates that strategic flair in which approach you want to take. Making sure you make wonders that can upgrade the Age via the town centre is a must. Allowing to upgrade weapons  armour, different infantry be that horse, archer, and so on. Making temples can also allow you to create units of mythical beasts to join your ever so growing army.

Eventually, you will unlock God powers that run on cool downs. You can rain meteors, lightning, or even buffs to armour in that selected area. Upgrading through the ages allows more god powers to aid you through your conquest.

It’s a good time being an RTS fan as of late. Especially on xbox with the inclusion of Age of Empires II DE, Age of Empires IV, and now Age of Mythology. Of course, there are other games, too, within the genre, such as Warhammer Age of Sigmar, just to name one.

I highly recommend Age of Mythology: Retold. You will spend many hours playing and get in engross with all things Mythology. The game is available now if you decide to purchase the Premium Edition for less than £30 on the Internet. I found shopto to be the cheapest at £26. If you do purchase the premium edition you will get 7 days early access, additional content such as 2 expansions coming after launch. Or you could just wait till Sept 4th for the game to be available on gamepass.

8/10
