In Starship Troopers Extermination, humanity faces the gravest threat it’s ever known, The Arachnids from the planet Klendathu are hell bent on ripping humanity to pieces because well why not. The game isn’t just a sci-fi 16-player squad shooter it’s an unapologetic homage to duty, valor and the kind of blind obedience we all secretly crave.
You, a model citizen, are dropped right into the action as a proud member of the mobile infantry, whose uniform is inexplicably optimized for maximum vulnerability. Yet, that’s part of the charm! The Developers have truly delivered on the spirit of the 1997 movie. While your armor might be made from materials that attracts bugs it’s reinforced with layers of sheer willpower and testosterone.
There are multiple classes to pick from, Guardian, Ranger, Medic, Engineer Sniper. Demolisher with some customization as you level up. There is no skill tree when you level up you will just receive an upgrade to either your armour or weapons.
Theres not a lot I can say about the gun play other than it is decent.
The base building is nice and simple, but it can be a pain when playing with randoms who decide to build massive doors and build walls around the arch reactor or stick all the ammo in the middle of the base. (Not very citizen like) but still it doesn’t detract from the fun.
The enemy type is decent as well going from the poster boy bug to gunner bugs, scorpions, tankers, plasma bugs bombardiers, Tigers and Royal Guards. These bugs as expected will attack from all sides and will swarm all over you especially if you are playing as a guardian who has sat down your own little bunker.
There are different game modes with different difficulty settings where the maps refresh after 60 minutes.
You have multiple difficulty modes which is mostly run to each objective kill loads of bugs a small bunker drops from the sky re-load kill loads more bugs whilst waiting for the next mission and then run off the to the next until you get to the end where you build your base and defend it against wave after wave of bugs until you have collected all the data from the arc extraction at which point the mayhem begins when your evac drop ship comes you will get endless waves of bugs and no revives because after all to quote the great General Rico Who wants to live forever, but the action doesn’t stop there once you have made it to your evac ship the bugs are attracted to it like flies to shit and quite often at the door of your ship you have mele the corpses to break up the blockage of the door way so your fellow troopers can get in for extraction.
Graphics and performance wise there are some issues with clipping and lag but this is something that I have found to be a minor hinderance now instead of it being almost game breaking in the early access stages.
Also be on the look out for a character called General Rico it is the Casper Van Dien who has also been streaming and playing with viewers on stream.
Some things I would like to see with this game is more content like maps and hopefully some flying bugs. There are some actual bugs that the developers will need to fix like falling through the floor of a drop ship or bugs getting stuck behind rocks and there are some server issues where you can be kicked from the game.
All in all, this an extremely fun game that does have a few flaws but what game doesn’t I will give this a 8 out of 10 from my own enjoyment I have had from the game. If you store aren’t sure I fully recommend checking out game play footage or go watch Casper Van Dien’s twitch stream who streams it quite often surprisingly Link provided below.
Any way fellow Troopers I am off to kill some more bugs – Kill em all.
