It is no secret that people are getting back into collecting games from the past, but that market has now become expensive with some games now being worth over £100 and some consoles also fetching a higher price than 5 years ago. This is where the Evercade VS-R console comes in.

The Evercade console is a machine that takes cartridges and you can have two loaded at the same time and switching between them is seamless.
Let’s get to the important parts.
The console is a compact size that is around the size of a DVD case so this will not be taking up much space. There is no eject button so you will need to lift the lid yourself.

The build quality is fine it seems sturdy enough.
There is no wireless controller functionality but this a console that is meant to bring the retro feel back, and it certainly does that, taking inspiration from the Nintendo 64 being able to have 4 player multiplayers.

There’s also no online play and no digital downloads for games you can only buy physical cartridges which is fine for me as I am a collector of physical media.
The controller is a decent size and fits my hands perfectly and no pain after a few hours of gaming (I have issues with my hands).

The user interface is also very simple and easy to navigate which is refreshing as some other consoles can be a cumbersome to navigate.
There is a large catalogue of games over 600 of them with some cartridges having 11 games on them. When I purchased the console, it came with Tomb Raider 1,2,3 and I purchased Duke Nukem collection 1 as an extra. The game cartridges are around £20 to £25 depending on the store front you purchase from. A lot of the collections are Neo geo games, and some that I have on my list to purchase next is Turrican, Worms and Rogue Craft if it gets another release.
There are some FPS games Duke Nukem 3d Total Meltdown is the game I tested the controls on for me wasn’t my cup of tea I think it is because I am so used to the mouse and keyboard or analogue stick.
Pros.
Console easy to set up.
Large collection of games at a great price point
Console and Tomb Raider cost me £89.
Cons
Controller for me doesn’t fit FPS games.
Somethings I would like to see.
A variant of the controller that has an analogue stick or two.
Overall I am very happy with my purchase and I very much looking forward to getting more games into my collection. This console for me is the best way to get into retro gaming and I hope this company goes from strength to strength. I will also add they have a wide range of handheld consoles and some table top arcade machines.
