If you want to Crane kick your way through life’s problems for a few hours at least then you may want to give this game a try. This game is a love letter to beat em ups from the early 90s.
Graphics:
The graphics are what I like to call “retro chic” a delightful mix of pixelated glory and enough detail to recognise Daniel LaRusso’s infamous headband fluttering in the breeze. The game oozes charm, with exaggerated karate chops and high-flying roundhouse kicks that feel straight out of a VHS training montage.
Gameplay:
The controls are simple but satisfying. Sure, you’ll mash the punch button so hard your thumb might need a wax-on/wax-off recovery break, from the fast-paced combat and hordes of enemies but isn’t that the hallmark of a true 80s arcade experience? There’s something satisfying Crane Kicking Johnny Lawrence in the face numerous times or brutalising your enemies with your special attack.
Story mode:
There isn’t much I can say about the story as it isn’t a complex story you relive all the iconic moments through 12 levels of ass kicking fun. The story doesn’t take long to complete it took me a couple of hours, but I did only play as Daniel LaRusso because well you must.
Sound track:
The music really fits the 80s vide of the game and with the special features you can back and listen in full if you so wish.
Multiplayer:
As with all Beat em ups there is a co-op local multiplayer no online option this time around but that’s fine.
Replayability.
There is a good amount of replayability as you can play through the story using different characters Mr. Miyagi, Daniel LaRusso, Ali Mills or Kumiko. Theres an arcade mode, boss rush mode and mini games, endless mode which are unlocked when finishing the story.
In conclusion:
This game is a fun game with a decent amount of replayability the price point in my opinion is fair at £34.99. Although I have only played through one character Daniel LaRusso I will be playing through it again with the other characters. All in all, this game is well worth playing especially if you are a fan of beat em ups.
