Introduction
Back in 1993 I was 7 years old watching the usual kids TV shows at the time and along came this massive hammer to kids TV in the form of The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, this show was watched and still is be millions of people and has a highly successful toy line, I always wanted the Megazord but the parents never bought it but I did have all the other toys. I watched the movie in the cinema when it came out with Ivan Ooze the villain this time around and everything had to be the White Ranger for me. It has been a great time for Beat Em Ups recently and a fair few of them have been excellent and some not so excellent of course but will Power Rangers Rita’s rewind be one of those excellent games or not so excellent ones you will soon find out after reading all my rambling.
When you first load up Power Ranger’s Rita’s re-wind you are welcomed with an excellent animation with excellent opening music…. I am biased with the music I will admit as I am an avid Heavy Metal listener. Straight off the bat the effort put into the opening animation and music lifts my excitement for this game because of how good G.I Joe Wrath of the Cobra and The Karate Kid was.
The story begins with Robot version of Rita Repulsa who goes back in time 30 years as a player you pick up when you have just gained your powers from Zordon and Alpha to battle the combined threat of Robo Rita and the original Rita who are trying to destroy through the 15 levels.
You get to pick between the red, blue, pink, yellow, black ranger who all have their own special attacks. It doesn’t take long until you get to battle Goldar you give him a damn good thrashing and then Rita intervenes and makes Goldar massive at this point you are treated to some nice animation of the Zords, my first play through was with the Red Ranger so I got to use the T-Rex the stage is mostly running and gunning strafing left to right dodging all manner of obstacles and special attacks from Goldar among other enemy types. It doesn’t take long until your Zord joins with all the others to make the Megazord this is more a rock em sock style battle in my opinion all you do Is dodge attacks and hit the attack buttons to combo up and power up the power sword to end him. You do get appearances from some fan favourites Mr Caplan and Bulk and Skull. The Bosses are good in particular order you take on Goldar a Chunky Chicken & Turkey Jerk, Bones, Eye Guy, Madame Woe, Crabby Cabbie, Green Ranger, Dragonzord, Robo Rita
Not only do you get to ride Zords, but you also get ride a motor bike but again this is a more side to side section dodging obstacles and shooting tanks I did find this level not so great but everything before that I have enjoyed greatly.
Graphically the game has that retro vibe that a lot of Beat Em Ups have now, but this is nothing bad in my opinion. The sprites are well drawn and well animated so nothing more can be said there, the environments look great also and some little easter eggs, such as the toxic waste dump keep your eyes peeled on the toxic waste, I won’t tell you what you will see though.

The controls are decent but can be a little loose especially with the shooting sections of the game, but this didn’t happen the fun I was having playing the game. There are a few other areas that could be improved upon like the speed of the power ranger feels a bit slow and the Zord levels but nothing drastic.
Replay ability is good also seeing as you can play online and there’s also a speed run mode as well for all you speed runners out there.
In conclusion Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Rita’s rewind is a solid game I have thoroughly enjoyed playing and this game really comes alive when you are playing with friends or with randoms online. I have seen on the developer’s website in a FAQ that they have ideas for post launch support but nothing to announce yet, hopefully this game does well for them and new content can be added.
For any Power Rangers fans or fans of Beat Em Ups in general this is a solid buy for me.
So, I will leave you all now to go back to playing – It’s Morphin time.
